For me though, this show maybe jumps the shark with the appearance of the faux-British guy. But maybe that's just because his accent is appalling. Come on, actor-guy. Chuck's American is fantastic (isn't it??), you can do better. *disappointment face* I actually think the Chuck-Blair think needs a fine balance to work. Or maybe I just feel the second Blair gives in and loves Chuck openly, he's doomed to put her off, she gets in a huff, he wins her back. And repeat. I think they could have done to string it out much longer and have a lot more games (more on that later)
Serena/Blair - weirdly doing a lot to ease my disenchantment with female friendships on TV (and females on TV generally). I mean, there should be a lot to complain about, but weirdly (as with a lot in this show), this dynamic is quite lovely. I think it's the strength of Blair, the sunny resilience of Serena, and the fact that it may seem to be bitchiness a lot of the time, but there's something strong/blunt, almost masculine in their steadfastness.
Eric facial weirdness - also something to do with the distractingly poofy and weirdly coloured hair + eyes seem too large and close together? Also, no chin? Head like triangle? He is interesting somehow though, his voice maybe? I think he was well-cast, his secret sexuality was kind of 'Ahh did not see that coming', but then 'Ahh, ok, yes.' (And...don't judge me, but over the course of the show my brain thought a lot of things I'm not proud of. Among them... Chuck/Eric? *hides*)
Nelli Yuki characterisation fail = yes. She gets dumped by her ex, fails one test, then comes in the next day a Blair-bunch clone? In a sense, does this make her defy the racial stereotype? But then, is reverting to the western stereotype of what a girl is much better? This seems to be a racial stereotyping which morphs into another variation on the show's usual lack of imagination / laziness with its secondary characters.
Chuck is a diva = YEEEESSSSS. Yes.
Long comment. But I feel justified because of time spent watching this show. It should mean something! It HAS to.
noooo can't stop writing
