Because it is a weird and mystifying entity! It doesn't follow any of the usual rules of fandom! It just kind of waddles along and does its own weird thing.

Yeah which I guess makes sense in an odd way, since kpop IS imagery, really. All it really gives you is faces and vague impressions of personality, so maybe it makes sense that they get molded into escapist fantasy writing? Or, yeah, too afraid to write about ~their favorite~ being anything too off. I feel like every other fandom knew that the best fic came out of emotional messiness, though :/

I am the same though! My rules about what I would read used to be much more stringent, now I just... deal with it :(
