2min as private detective partners in a noir AU!! Onew is their soft-hearted and world-weary 'in' with the police department. Key is their case as the only son of a powerful politican who has disappeared. JONGHYUN IS MINHO'S INGENUE. Don't question me, this is a perfect story!!111

I understand that Taemin would be terrible (taerrible even) as... most things but it doesn't matter bc his disinterested incompetence will allow Jonghyun to worm his way in as Minho's ad-hoc partner. & obviously I need this to be a rom-com noir.

5. Junghee/Minjung as unlikely friends

“Be my partner.” The voice comes from below Minjung's shoulders, a small girl whose hair smells like a curling iron and has a chest flat as an ironing board. She looks weird in her rolled-up gym shorts, a body too tiny to house this much aggression, and the letters on her shirt spell “Junghee”. The gym teacher yells out orders and girls start to sit down, facing each other, the soles of their sneakers aligned and hands pulling on the other's wrists.

“Gwiboon is a bitch and I don't want to be her partner anymore, ” Junghee explains as she ties up her hair. “So, you should do your stretches with me.” Minjung doesn't really care who she does her stretches with, as long as her hamstring doesn't start aching after the fifth lap, so she lets her finger wrap around the bones of the other girl's wrists and they tug, the symmetry of their motion pulling their tendons into life.

Minjung laps Junghee six times. The last time she hurtles past she lets out a clipped cheer--”Junghee, fighting”--because even if she knows next to nothing about the girl, this is her partner, and she is nothing if not a supportive teammate. And she swears that Junghee almost catches up. Minjung sees what she thinks are woefully short legs, kicking up dust next to hers in her peripheral vision.


Junghee doesn't call Minjung pretty, doesn't comment on how big her eyes are or how shiny her hair is, doesn't say any of the things written in the letters that Minjung gets in her locker. She's gotten used to her shoes smelling permanently of perfume from the soaked envelopes which she, frankly, has no idea how they keep managing to slip in there. These tokens of affection leave her both deeply honored and and deeply red in the face.

Minjung is thankful to Junghee for their gym-class conversations about teen idols and television and things that make her feel like a girl, instead of giant and sweaty from drills and itchy from grass stains. She'd only been close to her teammates before, and they put her on a pedestal so high that Minjung wasn't sure how to climb down and just be friends. But, and Minjung doesn't understand why this happens, she starts to long for some sort of compliment from Junghee. Even a backhanded one, “You run fast, like a boy,” would suffice.

That outtake thing at the end of Hello Baby ep. 1 made me *O* all across the universe. Minho and Key are arguing about whether not feeding the baby is a crime or something idk and Jonghyun is literally in the middle of them and gets all flustered and tries to stop the argument as dopily as God intended him to, but it works! because Minho laughs at him and Key gets to refocus his annoyance, all ~dis bitch.~ Ohhh my goddd so many things, so many things!! *O*

I love seeing how jjong fits into this because he’s so close to the both of them. I don’t think Onew is the type to intervene unless it got Serious and Taemin legit doesn’t care, but jjong is probably all hey you guys don’t fight hey hey let’s go watch a movie. In my head they both complain about the other one to him and he’s all well you know, you have to be understanding of Kibum, he has a hard time blah blah blah and Minho is really fun, you should give him another chance blah blah blah.
