hideous vanity post? must be a tuesday

In the B.i. (Before iPod) era, I had CDs. A lot of CDs. When I was bored, I'd sometimes make CD jackets for these CDs. That's entertainment, folks. Anyway since I don't have anything better to do, here is a HIDEOUS VANITY POST, aka an excuse to waste two hours scanning my favorite jackets. Some of the ones I made for other people were quite nice too, but I didn't have the foresight nor all-consuming narcissism to scan them. Click to make the front-n-back ones bigger. I have no idea why the scans are so huge.

Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

This was, I think, the first CD jacket I did that went outside scrawling the band name and album title really messily in pencil. I didn't even mean to doodle anything, much less doodle anything within a consistent style thingy (the arrows and shit were a thing of spontaneity!), but that's how it turned out. Thus a door was opened.

The Arcade Fire - Funeral

I'm annoyed that this one turned out so nice and classy (I fucking love how I wrote the track listing; so neat!! so effortless!! I am surprised at myself!) and stayed clean (unlike my poor Eternal Sunshine CD for example) when I hate the Arcade Fire. Except for Neighborhood #3.

Belle & Sebastian - Dear Catastrophe Waitress

I used to hate hate hate hate the fact that the "n" and "d" were touching in "and". It ate me up inside. I have difficulties in spacing/sizing letters when trying to center words or align them to the right. Colors are nice though. And I really like the way I wrote "Dear Catastrophe Waitress". I had never tried writing that way before, and I didn't copy off any font or anything; it turned out really well. I should try to write like that more often. Also am impressed by neat and consistent track listing. Look at those numbers. Mmm.

Beck - Mutations

I got really carried away with this one. Ha ha?

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack

This would've been flippin' perfect if the CD didn't make that weird gray indentation. And if I had resized the Paint window properly so the "21. Row" isn't cut off at the edge of the screen there, arrrrrrgh. I think the order of the songs are wrong but I can't remember. In any case I am very very fond of how neat and straight my all-caps track listing is.

Frou Frou - Details

I used to hate the fact that I colored the sash in but I've accepted it now. One of the very very very few times that I've actually drawn something. For some reason I think the track listing looks professional.

Sufjan Stevens - Michigan

That weird diagonal symmetry design thingy is kind of a holdover from the way I did the Tigermilk cover (below), but it turned out better here. Sort of. This is all messy and lopsided but it works somehow. I think it's the colors. I couldn't bear to go over the track listing in pen and risk messing up how neat and straight the lettering was. Mmm.

Belle & Sebastian - Tigermilk

This is actually kind of fugly but I like the colors and the branching thing off the "B" in "Belle." The ampersand could use some work. The "b" and "a" are touching in "Sebastian". Tigermilk" is written solidly though. The date is a disaster.

Bloodbeat: A Dean Winchester fan-mix (by Raeyashi)

The cover's kinda fug but I like the way I wrote the songs. Doesn't look like my handwriting!

Philip Glass - Low Symphony

I put this on here because I have trouble keeping my words aligned and "Low" and "Symphony", and "Philip" and "Glass" matched up more or less perfectly, and it was on my first goddamn try, too. So I am still very proud of this.

The Shins - Oh, Inverted World

I thought it was clever. *dumbb* It didn't look as good as I hoped it would though. I still haven't listened to this CD.

Steve Burns - Songs for Dustmites

Copied (ineptly) off the actual cover for lack of originality. D:

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

I always meant to write down the song titles on the back but they were all so long... I was writing the way I wrote Illinois a lot during this period of my long and vaired life.

Tilly and the Wall - Wild Like Children

They suck and I copied the font straight off their site. OH WELL.

I wrote you a long comment and it got messed up. Anyway, pretend there's a long comment here.
