fifty thousand coaches
Jul. 14th, 2007 07:29 pmAwwwwwwww. It is a little precious and conventional, particularly when they tried to shoehorn in the coach's Sad Sad Story, I could've lived without that. Maybe it's a little Pollyanna too, but what the fuck is wrong with a little yay yay everyone is nice?? NOTHING. The ending made me all gooey AND fuzzy with happiness. Awwwwww. I think what really made this movie work was Keke Palmer as Akeelah, but I was impressed with all the actors, especially the kids - Javier was so so adorable, Dylan was a priss in the best possible way. I also thought the social reality of L.A. and the racial implications thereof were portrayed very well. Julian was quite keen on the spelling bee parts of it; he watched a lot of the movie with me. :DDDD Something cute and meaningful to watch when you get tired of eating the refrigerator whole and living in the hilarious but cynical world of teh cool part of the internet.
Couple of things that made me 'hee': the Famous Jett Jackson! The guy who played Dylan played one of the Killer Bees in Ned! HEE! Alright, I'm done.
