edit: no wait whoops let me finish posting this
They've been filming something on campus since yesterday. I think I'm meant to be used to it and a bit blase since the campus is a not uncommon shooting location. But this is actually the first time I've seen anything be filmed! I'm impressed by the spectacle! Also the catering/food trucks are like right outside the library and the food smells really good. Oh I looked it up online and apparently it's that 90210 TV show. I thought that got cancelled like three years ago. WAIT LMAO WHAT I looked up 90210 (TV series) on wiki just now and LIZ PHAIR is one of the show's composers?? L.Phair/elf hair I can't with you sometimes.
I saw this dude playing trumpet on the corner of a busy street whilst I was on the bus. He was wearing a pinstriped suit with a hat and looked really classy, but he also had a liter of orange soda next to his open trumpet case. No cup or anything, just a giant bottle of soda! Man needs refreshment. lol idk I was endeared.
song combos I like:
The Corpse Bride - Piano Duet
The Beatles - The Fool on the Hill (demo) [mono]
Fleetwood Mac - Landslide (live in Yokohama)
Wolf Parade - Language City
Band of Horses - Laredo
Low - laser beam (live)
Wir sind Helden - Lass uns verschwinden
I am obsessed with Landslide. It's a really beautiful song.
Matthew Sweet - Sick of Myself
Marianne Rosenberg - How Can I Go Now*
Lilo & Stitch - Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride
The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back
Tegan & Sara - Soil, Soil
+ bonus: Ben Folds - Heist
*my mind is completely corrupted. for some mystifying reason (srsly if you listen to it you'll have no idea why, idk myself) I thought of Jonghyun during this song and my mind constructed this huge music video for him derpily dancing to this 70s eurodisco song and it became this ridiculous, like, celebration of him. just fucking hooray!! you exist!!
leave the lights up

I'd like to sincerely thank the disco for helping me not be embarrassed to like what I like. I'm not completely fearless about it, I am still all "whatever will people think!" sometimes, but that is because I am freakishly insecure and dependent on validation from other people, not because of any quel horreur nature of the disco. And the disco has seriously brought me so much love and joy and insanity, it feels wrong to be ashamed of it. (ALSO BDEN URIE IS A RADIANT STAR IN THE CONSTELLATION OF MY UNIVERSE.)
Wiff this, I realized that I was kind of a indie hipster snob about music in that I was hung up about what ~kind~ of person listens to what ~kind~ of music. I thought I had mostly let go of this but it turns out, not so much! I am still resisting actually LIKING Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance's music, but I kind of like both of their most recent stuff. They are the Borg, resistance is futile, etc. There are worse things to be than a Fall Out Boy fan. Hahaha that's so insulting, why am I being such a douchebag? I know I would be hella butthurt if I say someone say "I'm sure that liking the disco is not the complete end of the world" or whatever. Oh I don't know. I think I have to give up the idea of an objective good and an objective bad altogether. Why do I still have this idea anyway?? This entry is just BLAH BLAH BLAH I'M DUMB AS ROCKS. Well this whole lj is, but this post in particular.

MORE MUSIC SPAM! I got some new songs I am quitely in love with, and I think my YSI trial is going to run out soon. IF ANYONE HAS REQUESTS, SPEAK NOW. SERIOUSLY, if you are interested in something, I will at least try to hook you up. I am so bored all the time.
Dolly Parton - Here You Come Again
Dolly Parton has one of the cutest voices ever. It's so scratchy and distinctive and I <3 her. "Lookin' better than a bo-dy, has, a right to."
Jens Lekman - A Postcard to Nina
The first verse makes you think "sigh stupid twee lyricfest from Jens Lekman", only to make you feel pretty darn foolish when he totally kicks your ass and proves you wrong by the chorus. LOL it's like a romantic comedy plot in four minutes. And you can hear his accent here at times, which I like a lots. "Oh! God! What have I done!"
The Apples in Stereo - 7 Stars
I thought I really liked AiS whole-heartedly but that only applies to the latest CD I think. My standards as of now is to only name a band as one of my favorites if I like the majority of their discography. This theoretically puts newer bands at an advantage, but I feel that with 10000000 new bands coming out of the woodwork thanks to the innernets and such, and with most of these bands sucking ass hard, what to the ever, my system totally works. Also! AiS needs to lay off the Mr. Blue Sky voice distorter effect thingie a little. "Seven stars, in the sky, in the sky."
The Chemical Brothers - The Pills Won't Help You Now
I really really love this song. It sort of sneaks up on you, but... a word that doesn't seem as deceptive or abrupt as "sneaks." It breaks over you like a wave. It makes me feel pieceful and calm in my hart. Hey guys, am I like officially counted as an electro fan? Is this what I should answer when people are all HAY O U LIEK MYUSIC WOT KIND OF MUSIC U LISSEN TO?!11 Oh man I looked up the lyrics just now and I got them pretty rong. "You're digging your hee,ee,ls."
Ambulance LTD - Primitive (The Way I Treat You)
Cheerful awesome creepy. "Relax! Don't think about it, the way, I treat you."
Diana Ross and the Supremes - You Can't Hurry Love
YAY!! :DDDD "No, you just have to wait!"
Dolly Parton - Coat of Many Colors
New Radicals - You Get What You Give
* :D *
Dolly Parton - Jolene
The Lovin' Spoonful - Summer in the City
Final Fantasy - Arctic Circle
Let me just say that I fell embarrassingly in love with Owen Pallett aka Final Fantasy when I saw these videos. It was 3 AM and I was of weak constitution. I'm trying to word this right. Even though I do really like some of his music and I think he's one talented snaggletooth, I don't <333 him or his music really. It's - it's just that it's so pretty. And he sounded so lovely in the videos, just his voice and his violin. PRETTY.
one of many
Sep. 29th, 2007 09:49 pmZooey Deschanel & Samantha Shelton - Walk Right Back/Stormy Weather
This is sort of ghetto, but all I did was take this youtube video and convert it to an mp3 file with Zamzar. The quality's not the best but it's not too bad; just put the volume up hiiigh. I figure that I'm not the only one who's desperate to hear more of Zooey D.'s (Z.Desch?) voice, so... here you go! :D
Blackball False, Truth! - Knives Chau Luvs LCD
Actually you can download this (and all his other stuff) from his site for free, since he's that kind of awesomesaucecrazy.
The Apples in Stereo - Sunndal Song
Archie Bell and the Drells - Strategy (special disco version)
Belle and Sebastian - The Monkeys Are Breaking Out of the Zoo
Marilyn Monroe - Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend
Final Fantasy - Peach, Plum, Pear (Joanna Newsom cover)
Pokemon - TV Theme
Er, that last one... yeah, I've got nothing. But guys, did you know there's like a whole other verse to that song?!
FUCK IT, WHATEVER.
A Goofy Movie - Lester's Possum Park
I FREAKED. OUT. when I watched this part in the movie. I am serious, that one Halloween scarred me for life wrt the Devil's footsoldiers. Anyway, A Goofy Movie is love. "Come hoot and howl and holler from the heart~~~"
Do As Infinity - Tooku Made
Ah, good ol' Do As Infinity. They are solid, amirite? This song puts me in a good mood.
Jimmy Eat World - What I Would Say To You Now
I always mistake the title for that one lyric in Hear You Me. I love his voice. Minor-y, a kind of muffled bitterness. From the singles album. "It keeps me from trying -- it keeps me quiet."
Wanda Jackson - Rock Your Baby
Ahahaha I love her scratchy spunky voice and I love this song but most of all, I love the way she says "baby". "Rok - yor bayyyybie, awll niigh' lawwwng~"
The Light Footwork - The Art of Everyday Communication, Part 1
From this awesome mix; perfect for the subject matter, but pretty damn good on all on its lonesome too. "Could not decide, how best to approach you; proceeded with caution and an,awk, ward, hand, shake -- it was all, wooo-ooo-woooooo -- you were like, who the hell are you?"
Heather Nova - Sugar
From this fucking awesome vid. You should just download the vid; you only need a passing knowledge of Smallville (ie, Lana doesn't get to have a personality/spine on the show because she's a plot device called the Love Interest) to get the point. It's amaaaaazing. I mostly saw vids as just an excuse to string a bunch of clips together to your favorite song or whatever (and i was fine with that, for reals!) until this. You should also download Martina; that'll knock you on your ass and stay with you for a while besides. I must've watched each of those about ten times each. IN A ROW. I really really like this song. If you only download one thing, I want it to be THIS. "Going somewhere older than I was."
This was a really half-hearted spam, except for the ginormous push for the Heather Nova.
I really hate how everything in the entire godknown world is being remade by Hollywood. Is there any children's book series that hasn't been made into a movie yet? The Asian movie thing is some kind of weird cultural shitstorm altogether. We should be due for another "trend of thought" revolution. The new wave will be called bullshit-freeism, and it will be so powerful your face will be sucked off. OR, we could call it soul-crippling apathyism; that's where we watch the destruction of the planet and the fragile flower of man's goodness while thinking about what we want to eat. I usually say a brownie.
I hate driving and I'm very bad at it.
