I hate this trend of "updating" children's/YA books. Like when the publishing company decides to find+replace Walkmans to iPods or typewriters to laptops. I know the Sweet Valley High and Babysitters' Club books have become "updated"; there was at least one more (something about a copy machine vs mimeograph machine?) but I can't remember. Holy christ, kids can fucking handle it, it is not like they don't understand the concept of books being published in the past. It's so unnecessary and makes it look like they think kids are dumb as rocks. Plus it's just desperate whorey marketing.
Peeve: when people want to highlight a difference in education or "intelligence" or... ~*depth*~ or what the fuck ever by making a character not know the meaning of a word or saying the character hadn't read a bunch of books. That's fucking retarded. Those things don't say ANYTHING about how smart or learned a person is and it just makes me think that the author is stupid. Urggggh.

a) Katy Perry seems like a shallow and awful human being
b) I don't know quite how I feel about stagegay/people "performing" sexual orientations and I don't see anything wrong in experimenting, but this song skeeves me out. It's just so blatantly exploitative. It's supposed to be edgy and naughty or whatever b/c it's about a drunk bicurious girl making out with another girl. But of course it's not SERIOUS, LOLOLOL! The video could've turned it around by actually having her kiss a girl or jesus have any girl kiss another girl and make it look even the sliiiiiightest bit not trashy, or just even like the girls are actually interested in each other instead of using each other as a prop for the audience, but nope! It's allllll titillation. It's okay everyone, no one is ACTUALLY gay! Just focus on how hot she is! Millllllions of close-ups on her ass and down her cleavage!!11 Also the lines "It felt so wrong/It felt so right" especially bother me; like why does it feel wrong? B/c being gay is wrong? I get that it's supposed to be a oooh forbidden thrill thing, b/c "good girls don't" and all, but that's a shitty message and again makes it look like there is no actual attraction and it's just, you know, BICURIOUS FOR THE LOLZ!!1 Ugh idk this song is glorifying a lot of shitty things. ontd h8s Katy Perry too. Like
a lot. Even though I agree with some of the h8, I have been noticing more and more lately the way ontd is much more brutal toward females than they are toward males. I don't think this is an ontd-specific problem but it's just magnified by the size and nature of the comm (no holds barred celebrity gossip). More female figures are hated than male figures are hated. You get less people willing to disagree with the h8/stand up for the figure. The insults/criticisms are always more thorough and more personal than they are for guys, with the gendered insults and all, calling out sexuality etc, and more likely to go off really really unprovoked. It gets overwhelming and it's sad. K going back to the beginning of this paragraph: I don't like Katy Perry either, and it's not like she's making any great strides for equality in any realm, but reading five pages of "this stupid desperate slut needs to die," it's not good for anything.
That being said, MILEY FUCKING CYRUS OMFG. MY EYES BOILING IN H8. OMFG. NO ONE LIKES HER!! HOW ARE THERE STILL SO MANY POSTS?? Okay. Okay. But you know what?
